Happiness is just through the back door.

One special thing that makes me unbelievably happy is our home and yard. Lauren and I bought our home almost two years ago. I remember when we were looking, we had seen this house before, we'd driven by it a few times and weren't really impressed but kept it on our list. So, the day we went with our realtor Chi-Chi (Lauren's aunt) to look at houses this one was the first one we saw out of four. I was then completely in love with another one across town. But we walked in this house, took a look around and we really liked it. Then we walked out the back door into the yard. It was a mess but it was beautiful. The house had a large front and side yard, lined with crepe myrtles and a good sized back yard and it was obvious that the previous owner was an amazing gardener. We went through a gate that let to another section of the back yard beside the garage, it was lined with woods on one side and a huge grape vine along the back, which we thought was the end of our property. Then we saw another gate at the end of the vine and went through it and behind the grape vine there was another huge section of yard, which we now call the "back 40". It had a few trees and a small (fallen in) green house attached to the back of the garage and another small shed that was in the same condition as the green house but was mostly open and a half an acre by its self. All three of us stood there in amazement and I remember asking Chi-Chi if this came with it. It did. For the rest of the day every house we saw paled in comparison. We didn't even have to discuss it. When Lauren and I got home we both immediately said house #1. This house had an acre of land in the middle of town and it felt good. It had a great energy and as a bonus it had the lowest price tag of them all. Well we obviously bought it, it has taken a lot of work but reviving this place has been so great, despite the previous owners love of bricks, nails and a weed liner I think is made out of Kevlar. It is 80+ years old and has only had 2 owners, not including us. The woman who owned it before, Jessie Strange, had lived here for 60 years and it was just filled with love.

It's funny. We keep finding new things in our yard. We have two bushes out front, one of them, a hydrangea only had four blooms on it last year (our first spring here) and the other that I thought was a hydrangea didn't bloom at all. Then at the beginning of spring this year we found out that Mrs. Strange passed away and almost as soon as we found out, our yard exploded. The hydrangea looks like it threw up purple, it is so covered with blooms and the other one I found out is a Lace Cap, it also is completely covered in purple. We also have a big spiky plant in back that I didn't know was even capable of blooming produced three seven foot tall stalks with white bells on them. Our four climbing roses were covered in red and pink too, a huge blue lilac, a purple tulip tree, a sea of daffodils of every kind and iris' of every color. Four foot tall triple peony's, yellow cannas and the most beautiful triple day lilies you have ever seen! It was almost as if, Mrs. Strange's spirit came back here and told everything it was time to bloom and to do it well. I never thought I would love gardening and yard work as much as I do now. I have plans for a veggie garden and just planted an herb garden. Both of which I am super excited about!

All I can say is thank you Jessie, I hope you know how delighted I am to be walking in your beautiful footsteps.
